THE ARTISAN RESOURCE CENTER: SPRING OPEN HOUSE

Discovering Something New

Explore your way through the Artisan Resource Center Saturday April 19, and you just don’t know what you might find! From paintings to birdhouses, photography to monster special effects, fabric design to jewelry making, the center boasts an impressive list of artists . Located a mile south of the Big Chicken, most people don’t know the bustling complex even exists. “We are kind of hidden behind the Easy Rental, next to the Marietta Bowling Alley” says landlord Rip Potter, a fellow artisan.

When you visit this year expect something a little different as the Artisans have devised a unique way for each interested patron to interact with each studio: an interactive scavenger hunt is the newest idea for this spring’s event. In addition each studio has been challenged to be more interactive. Some will be sending video e-mails, others offering mini workshops, still others showcasing their portfolios while demonstrating the tools of their craft.

Throughout the day expect free give aways from participating studios along with food and beverages, live performances and more. The center itself is considered one Marietta’s best kept secrets. That an artisan conclave exists off of the congested Cobb Parkway remains an enigma. But once you meet landlord Rip Potter and his wife, Jefflyne, you begin to understand and appreciate their unique vision for attracting artists of various trades.

From The Audience Perspective

Environment

We need to know where you are.  Player A, this is your job.  Show, don’t tell.

The Moments Before/After

Walk onstage from a place, a state of mind you are clear on.  This creates substance, meaning onstage.

Relationship & Chemistry

We need to know how you relate to each other onstage.  Who holds the higher status.

Give and Take

Listen carefully onstage.  Give statements.  Give action.  Take by listing then responding.

Problem - Raising the Stakes

Generate an issue, discover a problem, create some pain…  Such a problem that if not corrected something bad is going to happen - raise the stakes.

Solution - Resolution

Fight for the problem - discover the resolution.  This is an  emotional win.

Ending a Scene

Find closure - end the scene.

Creating Characters

Voice, movement, characteristics, props

Following your Imagination

Be intuitive.

Continuity

Remember where your space objects are, call back important elements,  be consistent on-stage, tie things together…

Justifying your Choices

Make choices onstage- have reason.

Engaging your Audience

Always connect with your audience, who is in the audience, play to the audience,  your are there for them.
