The Commedia dell’Arte Workshop
Look what I can do! - The Commedia dell’Arte workshop.
Ever heard of Commedia? Maybe seen a performance? Want to know how to spell it? (see above) Well, here’s your chance to not only see how it’s done but actually get up and do it! Discover the roots of modern improvisation as we step back in time in this engaging, interactive workshop. On Sunday, March 9th from 5-8 p.m., blank stage instructor John Jenkinson will be holding a hands-on workshop that will teach the history, the characters, and the meaning behind Commedia at The Blank Stage.
Just what is it? Sounds foreign
Commedia dell’Arte is more afraid of you than you are of it. By employing stock characters from 16th century Italy, improvised scenarios are played out with timeless physical humor, prop shenanigans, and impressive mask work. That’s right- we use masks! Any young (-at-heart) actor will fall in love with this form! There is so much to learn from these zany characters- ones that were created and have not changed for nearly 500 years! So come out to The Blank Stage and enjoy- because this workshop is FREE! Limit 15. See you on the 9th! (and remember daylight savings time)
